A quotation can look complete and still leave important questions unanswered. “30 ft”, “lightweight” and “universal connection” mean little unless the supplier explains what was measured and what is included.
Before comparing prices, put these six specifications on the same basis.
1. Working length: separate pole length from working reach
Ask for the actual fully extended pole length within the permitted extension marks. Then ask how advertised working reach is defined, including any assumptions about operator reach, brush and adapter.
Your required length also depends on the working angle and access around obstacles. Avoid choosing by floor count alone.
Ask: “What is the actual extended length, what is included in that measurement, and how is working reach calculated?”
2. Collapsed length: check the transport configuration
Confirm the fully retracted length and whether it includes the end connector, angle adapter and brush. Check it against your vehicle, storage space and access route.
A compact pole may use more sections. Compare section count and base diameter alongside collapsed length, rather than assuming the shortest package will be easiest to handle.
Ask: “What is the stored length with and without the brush assembly?”
3. Weight: define what is on the scale
Request the bare-pole weight and an itemised weight for the proposed brush, adapter and hose. Confirm which clamps, fittings and hose length are included, and whether weights are dry.
For a meaningful handling trial, compare complete working assemblies at the same extension and angle. Weight distribution matters as well as total mass: a heavier head can change the effort needed to control the pole.
Ask: “Exactly which components are included in the quoted weight?”
4. Rigidity: ask for a repeatable comparison
“Carbon fibre” and “high rigidity” do not specify how much a finished pole bends. Tube geometry, fibre construction, overlap and joints all contribute.
If a supplier gives a deflection result, request the test arrangement: support or grip positions, extension, angle, applied load, measurement point and units. Figures from different setups are not directly comparable.
If no documented test is available, request a sample demonstration with the intended head. Observe placement, response after changing direction and joint movement. Do not improvise an overload test.
Ask: “Can we compare rigidity under the same documented conditions?”
5. Interface: confirm the complete connection chain
Identify the pole tip, adapter and tool by model. For a threaded connection, confirm diameter and pitch; for a proprietary fitting, confirm its exact system and locking method.
Check retention, angle adjustment and applicable attachment limits. A connection that screws together is not, by itself, evidence that the complete assembly is suitable for the task.
Ask: “Which pole–adapter–brush combination is confirmed, and which replacement parts fit it?”
6. Water supply: check delivery at the brush
Confirm hose internal and external diameters, length, routing, couplings, valve and brush jets. Ask for the recommended operating flow and allowable pressure for the complete system, including where those values are measured.
A pump rating alone does not establish delivery at the brush. Hose length and bore, elevation and restrictions can affect it. Check performance with your intended supply and hose run.
Also clarify water-quality and temperature requirements for the cleaning task. A water-fed pole does not purify water by itself; confirm whether treatment equipment is included or supplied separately.
Ask: “Will this hose, pump or mains supply, and brush combination deliver the required flow within every component’s limits?”
Put the answers into one quotation
Request one specification sheet for the exact model and configuration:
- Actual extended length and the definition of working reach.
- Collapsed length and transport configuration.
- Bare-pole and complete-kit weights, with inclusions stated.
- Rigidity evidence and comparison conditions.
- Confirmed pole, adapter and tool interfaces.
- Hose specification and water-supply requirements.
Mark each item as confirmed, to be verified or excluded. Attach the relevant drawings, instructions and sample evaluation notes.
